Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf on Monday awarded punishments to 21 police officers on the charges of corruption, abuse of power, delaying registering of cases and 'non-submission of recovered items' in recovery cases besides some other charges.

According to details, the DIG suspended Factory Area SHO Mumtaz Ali on the charges of delaying the process of registration of cases on the complaints of victims while Iqbal Town SHO Muhammad Sarwar and Shahdara Town Inspector Muhammad Mushtaq were also awarded a fine of Rs 5000 each on the same charges and failure to maintain law and order in the city. He also withheld services of the SHO Hairr village Muhammad Afzal for a period of one-year while the increments of Green Town Inspector Waseem Akhtar were also withheld for the same period.

A police spokesman said that the DIG has also reduced the salary of the former Wahdat Colony SHO Waqas-ul-Hassan on account of 'proven' corruption charges. He also withdrew three months increments of the former Shalamar SHO Iftekha Ahmed on the same charges. Out of 21, seven were the former police officers, he said.

He said the DIG had strongly reprimanded the Baghban Pura SHO and Sub-Inspector Hussain Farooq for delaying in registering cases. The former SHO Shalimar Iftekha Ahmed, former Mustafa Town Sub-Inspector Ishtiyaq Ahmed, former Liaqatabad SHO Raza Zakir, former Johar Town SHO Ahmed Usman, former Shalimar SHO Ahmed Amin and former Johar Town SHO Muhammad Ramzan were strongly reprimanded by the DIG on various charges, including the wrong registration of criminal cases by decreasing the degree of crime, delaying in registration of cases, corruption, failure to control crime besides other serious charges, he added. On the corruption charges, Haider also withhold one-year service of the Choki Begum Head Constable Safdar and Constable Muhammad Mehmood. He said the DIG also withheld six-month service of Inspector Shalamar police station Rehmat Ali.
